NSD Challenge- Spin Changing Photo Card

Image
Spin Changing Photo Card Hello Everyone, This is the last of the project elements I have to show you to be added to your Flat Pack Time Capsule. Just remember these projects I have included in my booklets are all optional. You may like to do each and every one or you may have another paper project in mind that can be added. The choice is completely your, personalise it to your liking. Okay, lets get started... You will need to draw two circles. Mine measure 5cm and the other one 6cm (with a 5cm circle drawn in the center). Also a strip 7cm x 1cm and another 5.5cm x 1 1/2cm. the top circle needs to be 1cm smaller than the bottom circle. I used the above measurements for the purpose of showing you my process but the ones I made for my booklet were slightly smaller in radius. 4cm and 5cm. I used the larger ize because I thought it would be easier to see the process. When you have your circles drawn and cut, you make a line from the center point to the edge on th

NSD Challenge- Pop Out Photo Card

Hello Everyone, I have another little project that I'm sure you are all going to enjoy. When I had finished this project, I found myself playing with it quite a lot... the child in me coming out !...LOL So for this part of the challenge I will be showing you how to make a POP OUT PHOTO CARD as another fun fun element you can add to your Flat Pack Time Capsule. To start off, you will need pretty sturdy paper (I do suggest a nice thickness of cardboard, that won't bend or wobble too much). The sizes you will need are: One piece 23.5cm x 5.5cm, one piece 20cm x 2cm and the last piece a rectangle 5cm x 4cm. I start with the largest piece 23.5cm x 5.5cm and fold it in half. Then score a line either side of the center fold at 0.75cm. Then fold on all of the score lines so you end up with an 'M' looking shape in the center. This gives you a little room when folded because your brad will be close to the center fold. Then grab the piece 20cm x 2cm and score a

NSD Challenge- Circle Envelope

Image
Circle Envelope This is a lovely way to add a little somewhat secret place to your Flat Pack Time Capsule. After I had made one each for my grandchildren and had glued them in the booklet, I realised I could use them as a little hidie hole. So, I placed a picture on the bottom inside and then I also put in a handwritten note from me (their nan) to them, so when they open it up in five years time, they can all read what I wrote to them. I started with an 18 by 18 cm piece of patterned paper and ruled it up as shown below. I measured and ruled a line at 5cm then 13cm. Which gives you a row of 5cm, 8cm and another 5cm. Then I turned it around to the side and made the same measurements and drawn lines. That then gives you an 8cm square in the center of your paper. I used a compas at 4cm (half the square line in the centre). I placed to compas point on each corner and marked the center of each line of the square. Once my center point was found on the square lines, I then put

NSD Challenge- Matchbook Photo Holder

Image
Matchbook Photo Holder Hello Everyone, So everything I have shown you how to make has been pretty easy so far, hasn't it? Well, this one is the simpliest of them all...but it makes an awesome holder to keep some cheerished photos in which can then be adhered into your Flat Pack Time Capsule. You will need a piece of cut patterned paper to the size of 12inches by 3 1/2inches. This piece needs to be scored aong the 12 inch side at 1inch, 6 1/4, 6 3/4, 7 1/4 inch. You then fold up the 1 inch and also fold along the center score line which will be 6 3/4.  Once you have folded on those score lines, you put a staple or two at the  very bottom where the one inch has been folded up. This acts as a flap to hold the front down.  I gathered up some 3 x 4 sized clear plastic bags and placed a photo in each of them. I used five for each grandchild. Because I still had my sewing machine at the ready I sewn the very top together just above the front fold flap and this secured t

NSD Challenge- Making the Time Capsule Pouch

Image
Hello Everyone, So if you thought making the booklet was so easy, then you will soon find out that making this pouch to hold the booklet is just as easy to make. For the base of the pouch I used a manilla folder. When left folded I cut it to the size: 22.5cm by 19cm which is roughly 9inches by 7 1/2 inches. I gathered all my scrap papers and placed then down on the manilla folder, Being held by a small amount of glue. I wanted to make the folder stronger and I thought by added some scrap papers in the 'frankenpaper' style this would greatly add some strength to the manilla folder. I placed the scrap pieces down not really thinking but just having fun and making sure it was very random...no order what-so-ever...lol When I was finished placing the papers down, I used my sewing machine to sew around all the edges of the individual papers. I have a pretty old sewing machine and I thoroughly love using it to sew on paper. And I love the way the 'frankenn

NSD Challenge- Making the Booklet for the Time Capsule

Image
Hello Everyone, Time to start making our Flat Pack Time Capule! This is a very easy process, a booklet to use as the base of the time capsule. I used: pattern paper from Aunty Vera...one cut at 12inches by 8inches and then a smaller piece out of the same paper 11 1/2 inches by 4inches. I also used a piece of craft paper in the middle which is 10inches by 7 1/2inches in size. I used the largest piece of paper as the cover and then placed the craft paper on top and then the smallest cut paper in the center of the craft paper. I used my sewing machine to do a zig-zag stitch around the edges of each individual piece of paper and then also used my machine to sew down the center of them all together, which gave me a good start to my time capsule being flat. If you don't have access to a sewing machine you can always hand stitch the pieces together with a basic pamphlet stitch. I added the zig-zag stitch around the outside as a decorative interest, so this is an optio

NSD Challenge 2019 Flat Pack Time Capsule

Hello Everyone, I'm so excited to be participating in my very first NSD challenge with Aunty Vera and the other amazing girls on the Creative Team.  I have a love of using and making things with paper and coming up with ideas that I find very enjoyable and fun to make. So I am hoping you will all enjoy my challenge I have set for you. How it Came to be.... I had been looking after me three grandchildren and thinking about  what I could do for the challenge while they were playing in front of me one day. The boys had dragged out every box I had been hoarding in my craft room and they were all busy making their own little creations, when my eldest grandson said, "Nan, this looks like a time capsule!" It sure did look like some sort of weird contraption...lol...which got me thinking how cool it would be to make some sort of time capsule for them, that they could all open up in a few years time. Not having much room for storage at home, I needed to think of something t
